Cambrian Stage 3
The "Atdabanian" - 521 to 515 million years ago

The third age of the Cambrian period (the time when the third stage of the Cambrian system, ie. succession of rock, was laid down) does not yet have an official (ICS) name, but is widely known as the Atdabanian after the corresponding Siberian regional stage. The base of the Atdabanian is defined by the first appearance of trilobites.

This is the time when metazoan evolution, after a slow buildup during the Ediacaran and Terreneuvian, takes off in earnest; the beginning of the Cambrian explosion proper. Many specacular fossils of Atdabanian animals are known from Chengjiang and Sirius Passet.
