Deposit feeders are organisms that feed on the particles of matter in the soil, usually the top sediment where it is filled with organic matter. This can happen by either ingesting the soil or by trapping the falling particles. Examples of organisms that are deposit feeders are: Earthworms, Terebellids, and Fiddler crabs. Deposit feeder may be in part synonymous with detritivore.
