Diploid

A nucleus is diploid if it contains two copies of each non-redundant gene. In Fungi, it is necessary to distinguish between diploid nuclei and diploid cells. A hypha may contain several haploid nuclei (either identical or from different individuals). Technically, the cell is diploid or polyploid. However, there may be no diploid nuclei.
