Flagellin
From Palaeos
A fibrous protein which forms most of the shaft in the flagellae of prokaryotes. This is quite different from the 9+2 microtubular rosette which makes up the core of eukaryotic flagellae. Interesting fact: an aberrant inflammatory response to flagellin turns out to be one of, and perhaps the main causative agent in Crohn's Disease (Lodes et al., 2004).
