Fork
From Palaeos
In software engineering, a "project fork" happens when a developer (or a group of them) takes a copy of source code from one software package and starts to independently develop a new package.
The term is also used (as here) more loosely to represent a similar branching of any work, particularly with free or open source software or licensing. For example, there are several forks of the English-language Wikipedia, such as Wikinfo, and Citizendium.
As well as containing original content, and text copied from Palaeos.com, Palaeos org also contains material from Wikipedia and EvoWiki, which has been included to help kickstart the site and to save "reinventing the wheel", especially regarding many areas not already covered on Palaeos com. The nature of collaborative and multi-authored editinmg and authorship however means that with time the Palaeos org pages will progressively diverge from the originals copied from the other sites.
