A nucleus is haploid if it contains only one copy of each non-redundant gene.

In Fungi, it is necessary to distinguish between haploid nuclei and haploid cells. A hypha may contain several haploid nuclei (either identical or from different individuals). Technically, the cell is diploid or polyploid. However, there may be no diploid nuclei.
