Hymenophyllaceae

Hymenophyllaceae are the "filmy ferns", a distinctive family of small ferns with extremely thin, translucent leaves.

Taxonomy of the filmy ferns can be a confusing affair, varying from authors who divide them into a large number of genera to those who would only recognise two, Trichomanes and Hymenophyllum. The tree below follows that of Pryer et al. (2001).
