An event at 65.5 Ma, extinguishing a lot of species, including dinosaurs and ammonites.
Two explanations are associated to the KT-event, namely:
- 1. The impact of a 10 km asteroid onto the continental shelf at current Yucatan, Mexico. This impact generated enough catastrophes to generate a global "atomic winter",
- 2. Intense volcanic eruptions at the Deccan Traps, India (which was then an island continent).
