Lamiaceae

Lamiaceae is a large family of mostly herbaceous or semi-woody plants (as well as some trees such as Vitex). Flowers of this family have the petals fused into a distinctive asymmetrical tubular shape with a broad lower lip. The aromatic nature of many of its members means that many are important culinary herbs, such as Mentha (mint), Rosmarinus (rosemary), Origanum (oregano and marjoram), Thymus (thyme) and Salvia (sage), to name a few.
