Myrionemataceae

Parent taxa: Phaeophyceae, Melanophycidae, Ectocarpales.

Description: (based on information from DeCew's Guide) Minute epiphytic filamentous or disk-shaped brown algae. Unilocular and/or plurilocular reproductive organs. Reproduction may be either sexual or asexual.

Comments: The Myrionemataceae seem to receive relatively little attention, probably because of their minute size. Spores from filamentous individuals in at least some species may give rise to disc-shaped progeny, or vice versa, but there does not appear to be a proper alternation of generations as progeny may also have the same growth habit as their parent.
