Plasmodium

Plasmodium may have two meanings in biology:

(1) Plasmodium (non-italicised): A multinucleate cellular structure, without division into individual cells - examples of organisms with a plamodial structure for at least part of their life cycle are plasmodial slime moulds.

(2)Plasmodium (italicised): A well-known genus of sporozoan parasites of vertebrates, species of which cause malaria in humans - see Plasmodium (genus).
