Producers are the organisms responsible for producing nutrients and thus supporting all other trophic levels.
They utilize an energy source, such as sunlight or sulfate, to fix inorganic carbon into organic forms that can be utilised as food by other organisms.
Another name for Producers is autotrophs, meaning that they produce their own food, as opposed to heterotrophs, taht need to derive food from other sources.
