Protozoa

A collective name for heterotrophic unicellular eukaryotes. In the past Protozoa was treated as a formal taxon (usually a phylum) of animals, but it is now regarded as rampantly paraphyletic. The word "protozoa" is still often used for an ecological class of organisms.
