The Earth is divided into the Crust, the Mantle and the Core.

The crust has the least amount of heat. Temperature rises steadily deeper in the crust.

The the mantle is hotter. The upper mantle is hard. The upper mantle and the crust form the Lithosphere. The lower mantle is less rigid. It is liquid like glass. It flows slowly over geological periods of time.

The core is even hotter. The outer core is liquid. Paradoxically the inner core is solid due to extreme pressure despite being hotter than the outer core.
