Systema Naturae 2000 is a Dutch-based up-to-date historical cross-referenced classification of life, including both extant and extinct taxa, and based on original authorative scientific literature, compiled by S.J. Brands, beginning in 1989, and first appearing on the internet in 2000. It is concerned with the relationships between the different classsifications, and the exploration of taxonomy. Its sister site is The Taxonomicon
The main classification is a compilation of all authorative scientific literature available to the author and reflects the most recent insights. Each taxon is presented at its original position in the main as well as in the original classification. Each entry is also mapped and cross-referenced to other entries.
Source material is primarily authorative scientific literature. Personal communication, popular literature and many classifications found on the internet are all excluded.
