Where do the Borhyaenids and the Thylacosmilids fit in?--Stanton 13:03, 16 August 2008 (PDT)
- According to Rougier et al. (1998), the borhyaenids (which phylogenetically include the thylacosmilids) are stem metatherians, outside the marsupial crown. I've put up the appropriate tree on the page for Boreosphenida.Christopher 05:05, 20 August 2008 (PDT)
- So they're the sister-group of marsupials? How odd. I wonder if they laid eggs or not.--Stanton 22:24, 23 August 2008 (PDT)
- I doubt it, seeing how they're still within the marsupial + placental clade, all modern members of which are livebearers. What is an open question is whether they had a pouch like modern marsupials or not. Tetrapod Zoology is one site that has a few good pages on borhyaenoids.Christopher 23:58, 23 August 2008 (PDT)
