Taxon template

The following is a suggested template for a taxon. In everything that follows, replace the word "taxon" with the name of that taxon (e.g. Deuterostomia, Bryophyta, whatever you want). The name has to be the formal name; hence Sauropoda, not Sauropods. To make it easier to keep track of things, the template is given the same name as the texon, so it is just the taxon name in double curly brackets.
To create an edit screen for the template in the first place, just write taxon in the approporiate part of the page you are editing. You'll get a redlink. Click on that, and you go to an edit screen. Copy 'n' paste this template into that screen, fill in the variables, and viola!, instant taxon template.
The taxon template
Remember that the following is provisional, as is all of Palaeos org at present. So if you don't like it or feel it can be improved, please present an alternative version!.
<table border="1" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"> <tr><td align="center" bgcolor="#CCCCCC" colspan="2">TAXON</td></tr> <tr> <td align="center" width="200" valign="top">Taxonomy</td> <td align="center" width="400" valign="top">Phylogeny</td> </tr><tr> <td align="justify" valign="top" ><div style="font-size:90%"> Still higher Linnaean taxon: Grandparent taxon<br> Next higher Linnaean taxon: Parent taxon<br><br> Linnaean rank: TAXON<br><br> *Next lower Linnaean rank: Child taxon #1 *ditto: Child taxon #2 **If space permits you can include here the next lower rank again: Grandchild taxon 12 **ditto: Grandchild taxon #2 </div></td> <td align="justify" valign="top"> Ascii phylogenetic tree goes here </td> </tr> </table> <br>
The following is identical to the above but has a bar in the Linnaean hierarchy to separate the child taxa from the taxoin in question. So you might prefer this version instead of the above one:
<table border="1" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"> <tr><td align="center" bgcolor="#CCCCCC" colspan="2">TAXON</td></tr> <tr> <td align="center" width="200" valign="top">Taxonomy</td> <td align="center" width="400" valign="top">Phylogeny</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="justify" valign="top"> <table border="1" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1"><tr> <td align="justify" valign="top"><div style="font-size:90%"> Still higher Linnaean taxon: Grandparent taxon<br> Next higher Linnaean taxon: Parent taxon<br><br> Linnaean rank: TAXON </div></td></tr> <tr><td align="justify" valign="top" ><div style="font-size:90%"> Next lower Linnaean ranks: * Child taxon #1 * Child taxon #2 * Child taxon #3 * Child taxon #4 </div></td></tr></table></td> <td align="justify" valign="top"> Ascii phylogenetic tree goes here </td> </tr> </table> <br>
