Beginning of an Introduction - a flow of thought

Even before life appeared on earth, the sea was accumulating the constituents of life, and already natural selection was at work increasing the abundance of the molecules that would be life’s precursors. These molecules even acquired the means to replicate, based on the constant laws of physics and chemistry. Perhaps as early as 4 Bya, life appeared in the sea. The first prokaryotic cells cloned themselves with a simple genetic code store in RNA, the same as they do today. The most primitive eukaryotic cells, life’s third domain, likely appeared at 3.5 to 3.0 Bya. While the single-celled microbes from the three domains made a living in a myriad of ways, many contained the complex metabolic machinery to use sunlight and carbon dioxide for energy through photosynthesis.

  • Rusting of earth - oxygenation of atmosphere
  • Multicellular life
  • Complex soft organisms
  • Cambrian explosion - failed attempts and recognizable forms (size, diversity, mineralizable structure)
  • Rare traces of life left owed to the never-ending torrent of sediment.

To Do List & Questions

  • Can we take editing help pages from wikipedia?
<== Yes, generally we can. The help pages published under meta.wikimedia's tech help are published under GNU Free Documentation License. For me, and presumably Alan, this doesn't matter - since we are wikipedians too, and 50% of my experiments, I make at wikipedia. rursus 00:28, 13 November 2006 (PST)
  • Note - Alan is a highly experienced wikipedian, so he can probably best make a list of missing stuff we need
  • Alan & Toby are most familiar with the Palaeos.com hierarchy, and can best pre-select categories -- from my observation, wikipedia is suffering from category disarray; we have the chance to get it right at the outset.
  • And I'm a science polyglot a university level computer engineer and math chewer - so I'm available for bug finding assistance both regarding computers plus software and non-biological-non-geological knowledge such as solar system astronomy, chemistry and such. rursus 00:28, 13 November 2006 (PST)

This wiki needs protection against spambots

I'm really pleased to see you as dealing with Spambots is often a difficult and lonely task. Further I feared that the wiki depends on me and if I can't look after it due to problems in my life I feared the wiki may fail. I was offline for six weeks round April due to personal problems. What we really need is a CAPTCHA, here's Google on CAPTCHAs. Thanks for your help. Proxima Centauri 09:18, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
