Granuloreticulosa are protists characterized by  delicate, reticulate pseudopodia with streaming micro-granular cytoplasm.  Pseudopodia  typically branch and anastomose, often forming plasmal networks.  Principal within the Granuloreticulosa are the Foraminifera. The two are almost synonymous. Granuloreticulosa however is always regarded as a highter taxon.

Granuloreticulosa is generally defined as a phyllum, although it had been defined as a class, or even a subclass, in the past.
 +
Foraminifera are generally defined as a class, rather than an order as previously. This allows Granuloreticulosa to be a superclass,  subphyllum , or phyllum.

In Loeblich and Tappan 1964 with Foraminiferda (using the common ordinal ending) an order, Granuloreticulosa  is defined as a subclass  within the class Retiularia, subphylum Sarcodina, phylum Protista
