The Periophthalmids, literally, "higher eyeballs," are a taxon of [[Oxudercinae|Oxudercin]] gobies, sometimes elevated into their own family.  Their common name, "mudskipper," refers to their ability to propel themselves great distances with their muscular tails, thus helping them to evade would-be predators and human collectors.
